On the L(2, 1)-labelling of block graphs

چکیده
The distance-two labeling problem of graphs was proposed by Griggs and Roberts in 1988, and it is a variation of the frequency assignment problem introduced by Hale in 1980. An L(2, 1)-labeling of a graph G is an assignment of nonnegative integers to the vertices of G such that vertices at distance two receive different numbers and adjacent vertices receive different and nonconsecutive integers. The L(2, 1)-labeling number of G, denoted by λ(G), is the smallest integer k such that G has a L(2, 1)-labeling in which no label is greater than k. In this work we study the L(2, 1)-labeling problem on block graphs. We find upper bounds for λ(G) in the general case, and we reduce those bounds for some particular cases of block graphs with maximum clique size equal to 3.

On the bandwidth of Mobius graphs
Bandwidth labelling is a well known research area in graph theory. We provide a new proof that the bandwidth of Mobius ladder is 4, if it is not a $K_{4}$, and investigate the bandwidth of a wider class of Mobius graphs of even strips.
متن کاملLabelling Graphs with the Circular Difference∗
For positive integers k and d ≥ 2, a k-S(d, 1)-labelling of a graph G is a function on the vertex set of G, f : V (G) → {0, 1, 2, · · · , k− 1}, such that |f(u)− f(v)|k ≥ { d if dG(u, v) = 1; 1 if dG(u, v) = 2, where |x|k = min{|x|, k − |x|} is the circular difference modulo k. In general, this kind of labelling is called the S(d, 1)-labelling. The σdnumber of G, σd(G), is the minimum k of a k-...
متن کاملThe L(2, 1)-labelling problem for cubic Cayley graphs on dihedral groups
A k-L(2, 1)-labelling of a graph G is a mapping f : V (G) → {0, 1, 2, . . . , k} such that |f(u)− f(v)| ≥ 2 if uv ∈ E(G) and f(u) 6= f(v) if u, v are distance two apart. The smallest positive integer k such that G admits a k-L(2, 1)-labelling is called the λ-number of G. In this paper we study this quantity for cubic Cayley graphs (other than the prism graphs) on dihedral groups, which are call...

For a given graph G of order n, an L(2, 1)-labelling is defined as a function f : V (G) → {0, 1, 2, · · ·} such that |f(u)− f(v)| ≥ 2 when dG(u, v) = 1 and |f(u)− f(v)| ≥ 1 when dG(u, v) = 2, is the minimum length of a path between u and v. A k−L(2, 1)-labelling is an L(2, 1)-labelling such that no label is greater than k. The L(2, 1)-labelling number of G, denoted by λ(G), is the smallest numb...
